Less than 24 hours after slugging his first home run in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform, first baseman Justin Bour — along with right-hander Edubray Ramos — have been placed on the 10-day disabled list.
In corresponding moves prior to their Thursday matinee series finale, the Phillies recalled catcher Andrew Knapp from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and added newly-acquired southpaw reliever Luis Avilan.
Bour, 30, and Ramos, 25, land on the disabled list with respective left oblique strain and right index finger blister ailments. In nine games since joining the Phillies on August 12, Bour has slashed .250/.318/.450 with three runs scored, three singles, one double, one home run, two RBI, two walks and six strikeouts spanning 22 plate appearances. Ramos just recently missed 26 games due to a left patella tendon strain, and is 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA, 36 strikeouts and a 1.167 WHIP spanning 42 appearances and 36 overall appearances this season.
Knapp, 26, has not appeared with the Phillies since August 12, optioned upon the acquisition of catcher Wilson Ramos from the Tampa Bay Rays. In two games with the IronPigs, Knapp collected a single, double, RBI, two walks and three strikeouts through nine plate appearances (.286/.444/.429). The switch-hitter recently joined the Phillies on Sunday as the 26th man for the Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Ramos has been absent from the Phillies in the current series against the Washington Nationals due to a sore left wrist, but hopes to return to action during Friday's series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Phillies acquired Avilan, 29, from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for minor-league RHP Felix Paulino. The seven-year veteran helps fill the void created by currently-injured southpaws Austin Davis and Aaron Loup.
Given September and the subsequent expanded rosters is just nine days away, the Phillies now likely will carry three catchers in Ramos, Knapp and Jorge Alfaro for the remainder of the season.
