The statuses of five Philadelphia Phillies pitchers were affected prior to the club's Thursday single-admission doubleheader against the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park.
Right-handers Zach Eflin and Mark Leiter — along with rookie southpaw Ranger Suarez — were recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, while southpaw relievers Austin Davis and Aaron Loup were placed on the 10-day disabled list. Suarez and Eflin will start the first and second game of the doubleheader, respectively. Eflin's addition to the 25-man roster comes as the 26th man of the doubleheader.
In addition, right-hander Yacksel Rios will be called up by the Phillies following the first game of the doubleheader to "bolster the bullpen," according to The Morning Call's Tom Housenick. Suarez will be sent back down after his spot start as the corresponding move, in addition to Eflin being returned to Triple-A.
Davis is sidelined with lower back tightness, while Loup has a left forearm strain. Since joining the Phillies via trade on July 31 from the Toronto Blue Jays, Loup has surrendered two runs on three hits, one walk and one strikeout in four appearances and two innings.
