Amid reports that the Philadelphia Phillies are pursuing at least four veteran infielders to bolster the lineup, the club signed eight-year veteran infielder Danny Espinosa to a minor league contract on Friday, according to philly.com's Scott Lauber. Espinosa will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley "in the coming days."

Espinosa, 30, played 32 games for the Toronto Blue Jays' and Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A affiliates this season, slashing .190/.236/.276 with 16 singles, four doubles, two home runs, five walks, eight RBI and 39 strikeouts spanning 125 plate appearances.

Native to Santa Ana, California, Espinosa was selected in the third round of the 2008 amateur draft by the Washington Nationals, and played seven seasons for the organization from 2010-2016.

Espinosa is a .221 career hitter, with 98 home runs and 316 RBI in 872 games overall. In the field, Espinosa has logged major league innings at all infield positions — excluding catcher — as well as 23 1/3 innings in left field with the Nationals in 2015.
