Saquon Barkley Divisional Round

The Eagles are Super Bowl Champions and free agent signing Saquon Barkley was a large part of that.

So much so, that the team has opted to extend the running back two more years.

It was less than a year ago that Barkley joined the Eagles via a three-year deal. That means he’s signed as many contracts with Philadelphia as he did with New York in less than a league year.

That gives the Eagles a now five years of control (four after this league year is officially over in short order).

Reports indicate Barkley is guaranteed $36 million on the extension.

Most likely, the deal also lowers Barkley’s cap hit from his original deal for the 2025 season and pushes that money back.

Barkley had 2504 yard rushing during the 2024 season and the playoffs in his first year with Philadelphia.

His original deal was setup more as a two-year deal with an out (like the outs the Eagles just used on Slay and Bradberry’s contracts), so in a way it avoids Barkley playing on a contract year and makes him the NFL’s highest-paid running back.

Of course, the thinking is that there will be a new highest-paid running back come the time where his extension is active, but that’s just how the Eagles operate.

The Eagles take care of another of their stars and lock up another offensive player for several years as they look to build on their success.
