Josh Sweat

It’s been just three and a half hours and the Eagles have already lost their fourth defender to free agency.

Though most of these departures were expected, the money on some of these deals is higher than anticipated.

Such is the case for Josh Sweat, who is heading to Arizona according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The deal is for four years and carries a $76.4 million price tag.

$41 million is guaranteed.

It’s hard to imagine the Eagles were competing in that market for Sweat. It leaves Nolan Smith alone at the top of the rotation with Brandon Graham potentially retiring. That means a step up will be needed from Jalyx Hunt in year two.

Sweat played all previous seven years of his career in Philadelphia after the Eagles took a chance on him in the fourth round.

He rejoins Jonathan Gannon who was his DC when the Eagles went to Super Bowl LVII and Sweat had his best season in the league.

The deal comes with a $19.1 million AAV. Based on last year’s free agent market, that probably would have been worth the top fourth-round comp pick in the calculations.

All free agent deals cannot be officially signed until Wednesday.
