Eagles Offseason: Lane Johnson, Eagles Agree To One-Year Extension

The Eagles are getting some more work done early.
On Monday, the Eagles and veteran RT Lane Johnson agreed to a one-year contract extension.
The deal will keep him with the team through 2027.
Another Eagles’ payday: Five-time All-Pro OT Lane Johnson has reworked his contract to add $8 million dollars over the next two years, and an additional $30 million in guarantees, per his agent Ken Sarnoff from 1 of 1 Agency. The new contract almost assuredly clears up a bit of cap space for the coming season while adding an additional $8 million to what Johnson will earn over the next two years and, most importantly, guarantees an additional $30 million.
That will leave Johnson under contract with Philadelphia through his age-38 season. The 2027 would be his 15th season playing in the NFL and all would be with the Eagles.
For an aging veteran, the guarantees can be huge as injury risk increases.
Johnson is the last remaining member of the core four linemen (Cox, Kelce, Graham) should Brandon Graham retire as he’s indicated he would. He’ll become the bridge to the next core linemen of the Eagles that’d seem to include Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, and Jalen Carter.
Johnson is still playing at a high level and received plenty of accolades for his play last season as the anchor on the right side of the line.
