Jasmine Bascoe Leads Villanova In Win Over Boston College In WBIT

Radnor, PA: March Madness is in full gear, and postseason play will make its way to Finneran Pavilion on the campus of Villanova University for the third year in row. On Thursday night, the Villanova Wildcats did battle with the Boston College Eagles in the first round of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT).

Villanova comes into the WBIT with 18-12 record while Boston College Made their way to the Main Line with a 16-17 record. The winner of this game moves on to take on Albany or Big 5 Rivals, the Saint Joseph’s Hawks.

How the game went:
Boston College would jump out to a 15-4 lead, then Villanova would go on an 8-0 run to cut the lead down to 3 at 15-12.  The Wildcats were trying to cut the lead down before the quarter ended, but made mistakes and bad turnovers, allowing Boston College to take a 22-17 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

In the second quarter, Villanova would go on a run and take their first lead of the game at 26-24. The Eagles responded to the run with one of their own; The game would be tied at 38 at halftime.

Based off what we saw, this game would be coming down to the 4th quarter and who would make the bigger shots.

In the 3rd quarter, Boston College would bring the pressure on the Wildcats and have a lead of 6 at 56-50 with 3:54 left. The Wildcats would go on one of their runs to make things interesting to close out the quarter on a show from Jasmine Bascoe, which gave Villanova a 62-60 lead heading into the final quarter:

Boston College would not fly away that easily. They came out throwing punches to keep the pressure on the Wildcats, but Bascoe, Ryanne Allen, & Maddie Webber would make some clutch shots down the stretch of this game.

Boston College would run out of gas, looking very tired down the stretch of this game as it turned out that the Eagles only had seven players on the roster due to some injuries and some players that decided to enter the Transfer Portal.

Villanova would put the clamps down on Boston College & hold on for a 76-70 win. They will now advance to the 2nd round of the WBIT.

Boston College sees their season come to end with a record of 16-18 while Villanova keeps moving on and will prepare for their Big 5 Rivals, the Saint Joseph’s Hawks on Sunday in the 2nd round of the WBIT. The game will be held at Hagan Arena.
