NFL Free Agency: Lions Sign Avonte Maddox

More cornerback turnover for the Eagles is coming.
On Friday, it was announced that slot corner Avonte Maddox was signing a deal with the Lions.
DB Avonte Maddox signed a one-year contract with the Lions, per his agent Jason Chayut.

Maddox wasn’t necessarily expected back, but he wasn’t expected back last year, either.
The Lions bring him in after a rough season that saw him get benched and beaten quite often when he came on in relief. His season did end on a high note, however, as his relief snap in the Super Bowl saw him break up a pass from Mahomes to get the ball back to his offense.
Perhaps that play is what earned Maddox the Lions deal.
Maddox played safety and outside corner for seven years with the team after they drafted him, but injuries derailed his most recent seasons and he never recaptured that form he had prior – he’ll look to hit that stride again in Detroit.
Maddox has been the roommate of TE Dallas Goedert since they were drafted together and Goedert’s own future with the team remains up in the air.
