Flyers Postgame Report: Flyers Win Streak Snapped by Canadiens

At the start of the season, there were shades of a possible Calder Trophy winner on the roster and another bid at the playoff appearance that just eluded the Flyers a season ago. Instead, the team on the other side of the ice on Saturday night took one step closer to achieving both.
Lane Hutson, arguably the leader in the Calder Trophy race, put the Montreal Canadiens ahead for good in the third period, as they took one step closer to securing the final playoff spot in the East and snapped the Flyers winning streak at three games with a 3-2 decision.
The Flyers opened the scoring at 4:10. Ryan Poehling continued his hot streak with his 12th goal of the season, setting a new career-high to make it 1-0.
The Flyers had a four-minute power play go by the wayside, and the Canadiens failed to score on a power-play opportunity of their own.
Through 20 minutes, shots were 7-4 Flyers.
The Canadiens out-shot the Flyers, 11-5, in the second period, but Sam Ersson stood tall to keep Montreal off the board.
Through two periods, shots were 15-12 Montreal.
The Canadiens finally broke through in the third. At 1:24, Brendan Gallagher fired from the slot for his 20th goal of the season to tie things up at one. Just 1:16 later, Hutson fired from a sharp angle and went upstairs on Ersson for his sixth goal of the season to give the Canadiens a 2-1 lead.
With the Flyers on a power play midway through the period, the Canadiens got more insurance. Nick Suzuki picked up a puck in the corner and circled the net, beating Ersson with a shot that deflected on the way in for his 27th goal of the season to make it 3-1.
In the final minute of play, the Flyers cut the lead back to one on the power play, as Tyson Foerster scored his 19th goal of the season.
Sam Montembeault made 21 saves on 23 shots in the win. Ersson made 23 saves on 26 shots in the loss.
Poehling had a goal and an assist for the Flyers. Suzuki had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens.
Karsen Dorwart made his NHL debut for the Flyers, playing 10:32 with two shots on goal and two hits.
With the loss, the Flyers were officially eliminated from playoff contention.
The Flyers return to action on Wednesday night against the New York Rangers at 7:30 p.m.
