NFL Free Agency: Eagles Taking Flier Terrace Marshall Jr.

The Eagles front office is taking a flier on a former top draft pick.
On Thursday, the team agreed to a one-year deal with 2021 second-round pick Terrace Marshall Jr.

Pryor to the draft, Marshall was almost universally considered to be worthy of a second-round pick after he took over for Justin Jefferson and did a pretty good job doing so for LSU the season prior.
Since then, however, he’s failed to live up to expectations. In three seasons with the Panthers (who drafted him), he recorded just 767 yards and a touchdown.
He was released before the 2024 season. He spent a month and a half on the San Francisco practice squad and then the rest of the year with the Raiders. He appeared in seven games but only recorded three catches for 41 yards.
The Eagles are hoping that the potential is still there and they can coax some of it to show on an NFL field. That’d seem more likely coming straight from the lowly Panthers, however, and would seem like a longer shot considering three other NFL teams have now failed to get that production.
Still, the move is a low-risk one with the potential to pay off big time.
