Flyers Postgame Report: Foerster, Flyers Down Islanders in Shootout

The Flyers have found their scoring touch since Brad Shaw took over as interim head coach. That has less to do with Shaw’s coaching style and more to do with a team that seems renewed and energized to finish the season on a high note, draft lottery odds be damned.
On Saturday afternoon, the goal scorer riding the biggest wave since the coaching change remained red hot with two more goals. Tyson Foerster moved into a tie for the team lead with 24 goals on the season, and Bobby Brink scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Flyers defeated the New York Islanders, 4-3, at Wells Fargo Center.
Neither team was able to score in the first period. Through 20 minutes, shots were 11-8 Islanders.
In the second, the two teams exchanged power-play goals. The Flyers got on the board first at 3:28, as Foerster scored his 23rd goal of the season and seventh in the last six games to make it 1-0.
The Islanders tied things up at 10:54, as Anders Lee was left alone on the doorstep for an easy tip-in goal, his 29th of the season, to make it 1-1.
With 2:02 remaining in the period, the Islanders got the lead. Bo Horvat made a nice pass to Noah Dobson with space to move right in on goal. Dobson beat Sam Ersson through the five-hole to make it 2-1 on his 10th goal of the season.
Through two periods, shots were 26-12 Islanders.
The Flyers tied the game at two at 4:29. Jakob Pelletier scored his seventh goal of the season to finish off a pretty passing play.
The Flyers took the lead again at 10:34. Foerster struck again for his second goal of the game and 24th of the season to make it 3-2.
With one minute to play, the Islanders tied the game. Horvat’s shot deflected off Travis Sanheim and in to even the score at three and force overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the Flyers and Islanders went four scoreless rounds in the shootout before Brink scored in the fifth round. Ersson stopped Kyle Palmieri to secure the win, the Flyers fifth in the last six games.
Ersson made 37 saves on 40 shots in the win. Marcus Hogberg made 19 saves on 22 shots in the loss.
Foerster and Owen Tippett each had multi-point games for the Flyers. Horvat, Lee, Dobson, and Tony DeAngelo each had two points for the Islanders.
The Flyers are right back on the ice on Sunday afternoon to take on the Ottawa Senators at 1 p.m.
