GLENDALE, Ariz. — Former Philadelphia Phillies right-handed reliever Justin De Fratus has signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Chris Cotillo of SB Nation.
De Fratus, 30, has not pitched in the majors since going 0-2 with a 5.51 ERA and 68-32 strike-out-to-walk ratio through 61 appearances and 80 innings with the Phillies in 2015. Since, De Fratus has appeared with minor leagues affiliates of three different major league clubs — Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and Washington Nationals — as well as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Independent Atlantic League.
De Fratus broke the news himself with the following Instagram post caption:
So excited to let you all know that yesterday I signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Such an incredible feeling to have the opportunity to compete and continue the process of being the best version of myself every day with my hometown team. Though this is exciting, this isn’t the end. The work continues, the process continues. But I can’t express the gratitude I have to have chance to let my hard work show. Next goal. Make a team! Let’s go!
It is unclear if the deal includes an invitation to Dodgers' big league camp, where the Oxnard, California native would reunite with his former Phillies teammate from 2011-2015, second baseman Chase Utley.
The Dodgers, Utley, and potentially De Fratus will return to Citizens Bank Park on July 23-25.
