The award is the NFLPA's version of the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year award that is given out to the player who best serves their community.
After the players voted, Long was deemed to be the most deserving recipient for his donation of all 16 of his game checks for the 2017 season to educational equality in Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Boston – the three cities that he has played for in his NFL career.
In addition to receiving the honor, the NFLPA will donate $100,000 to The Chris Long Foundation. To learn more about The Chris Long Foundation, and make a donation yourself, you can click here to learn more.
Long's recognition comes one year after fellow Eagle Malcolm Jenkins won the award. The NFLPA describes the award as the highest honor a player can receive.
