Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor saw the floor in game action on Tuesday night in Utah for the first time since October 21 against Toronto. The lack of playing time with the Sixers in game situations showed during his short stint on the floor against the Jazz, as the third-year center out of Duke notched three personal fouls in three minutes of action, missing both of his shot attempts.
After a night like Tuesday for Okafor, his value probably would have been higher if he wasn't played at all, but both Amir Johnson and Richaun Holmes were in foul trouble too, forcing Okafor into the game. That being said, one more team has emerged in Okafor discussions in the Phoenix Suns. After dealing Eric Bledsoe to Milwaukee for two picks and Greg Monroe, it's widely believed the Suns will not hold on to Monroe, but either try to trade him soon or buy out his contract. That would leave an open spot on their roster, one Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN believes could belong to a guy like Jahlil Okafor.
The possibility of a contract buyout could give the Suns freedom to be creative with an open roster spot. Before Dec. 6, the Suns need a spot to convert the two-way contract of productive rookie guard Mike James into a regular roster spot. Also, an open roster spot would give the Suns the chance to become involved in trade talks with Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor, a 21-year-old former No. 3 overall pick with whom the Suns have had interest, league sources said.
Okafor, 21, has career averages of 14.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. HoopsHype also looked into a situation where Okafor could be a fit on the Bucks after the trade of Greg Monroe. Milwaukee could use an offensively-gifted center off the bench to back-up young, talented big man Thon Maker.
