Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis may be getting closer to the end of his Philadelphia Phillies career. With rookie J.P. Crawford in the fold, capable of playing strong defense and with potential in his bat, Galvis could be a trade candidate this offseason. Galvis has one year remaining on his contract with the Phillies.
Perhaps building trade value was the announcement today that Galvis has been named one of the "finalists" for the Rawlings Gold Glove award at the shortstop position. Galvis is the only Phillies player being considered at any position. The only former Phillie being considered elsewhere is Ender Inciarte, only briefly a Phillies outfielder via the Rule 5 draft in 2013.
Galvis will compete against Brandon Crawford of the San Francisco Giants and Corey Seager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, there is not much of a "competition" for this award. The vote is already done and baseball is teasing the eventual winner by naming others who were considered.
Crawford, who has won back-to-back awards the last two seasons, may still ulimately be favorite to win once again.
The Phillies jumped to promote Galvis with some statistics and a visual:
20 more starts, 158.1 more innings, four fewer errors than any other finalist.

The Giants had no similar post.
Managers and coaches vote for the award, though there is a statistical component that could skew the vote marginally. Recipients of the 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove award will be announced November 7..
