Whether it was the 50th Anniversary Alumni Game last year, the game against the Rangers Alumni in 2011 or the numerous charity games in between, Flyers Alumni games are always a unique experience. They never fail to deliver when it comes to the nostalgia factor, and they give fans the chance to see some of the team's most illustrious players take the ice one more time.
The Flyers Alumni Association on Thursday announced another game was going to be taking place, this time in another outdoor setting. As the Lehigh Valley Phantoms visit the Hershey Bears at Hersheypark Stadium for the Capital BlueCross Outdoor Classic, the Flyers Alumni will be taking on Bears Alumni on Jan. 19.
Confirmed participants include Eric Lindros (just one day after the Flyers retire his jersey), John LeClair, Danny Briere, Kimmo Timonen, Joe Watson, Brad Marsh, Tim Kerr, Neil Little, Brian Propp, Arron Asham and Riley Cote. Bernie Parent and team president Paul Holmgren will serve as coaches, while Dennis Bonvie, Greg Amadio and Freddy Cassivi are among the Bears' participants.
The game also honors the 12-year affiliation the Flyers and Bears had, starting in 1984-85. Hershey has also affiliated with Boston, Colorado and (currently) Washington, so they'll have some names to choose from as well.
Full rosters for the game will be announced in the coming months. Tickets for the game must be purchased in a package with the Outdoor Classic.
