Phillies, Mets to play in 2018 MLB Little League Classic

In 2017, Major League Baseballl held their first Little League Classic game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Williamsport is home to the Little League World Series and the Phillies' Short Season 'A' affiliate, the Crosscutters. In year one of the classic, NL Central foes squared off as the Pirates took on the Cardinals. Major League Baseball announced that the second annual Little League Classic will feature the Phillies and the Mets on August 19, 2018 in Williamsport at Historic Bowman Field.

While it was a bit of a head-scratcher that the Phillies weren't one of the original teams considering their affiliation in Williamsport, the first Little League Classic was a rousing success with the Pirates defeating St. Louis, 6-3.

Like in 2017's game in Williamsport, the majority of the 2,500 seats will be filled by Little League players, coaches and families along with local area youth baseball and softball organizations. In addition, the Phillies and Mets will attend the Little League World Series games earlier in the day, continuing the tradition of growth for youth baseball around the world.

"It's experiences like the 2018 MLB Little League Classic that create baseball fans for life, and we are honored to be a part of it.," Phillies executive vice president David Buck told MLB.com.
