The Flyers' youth movement, by now, is far from a secret. Players like Nolan Patrick, Ivan Provorov, Shayne Gostisbehere and Travis Konecny represent the club's bright future, and their prospect pool remains deep.
One of the league's preeminent young players, though, wants to join in on the fun.
Johnny Gaudreau, a native of Carney's Point, N.J., said on Sportsradio WIP's Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team that he would be open to heading home and lacing 'em up for the Orange and Black.
"I have a ton of family here, all my good friends come back here," Gaudreau said. "It would be sweet to play here some day. You never know in sports, but [there's] a lot of support back here in South Jersey and the Philly area."
If 'Johnny Hockey' did come back home though, it won't be anytime soon. He has five years left on a six-year, $40.5 million contract, and considering how quick the Flames' youth movement is progressing, there's a good chance they'll be a contender once that contract nears its expiry.
Of course, playing for the hometown team is something just about every player wants in every sport. Not exactly too much to look into here. No doubt, though, that Gaudreau would do pretty well in the (hypothetical) event he returns to his hometown Flyers, and the fanbase would welcome him with open arms.
