On June 11, the Philadelphia Phillies placed second baseman Cesar Hernandez on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left oblique muscle. Pete Mackanin indicated that Hernandez would be sidelined for about six weeks, meaning an end of July return would be the earliest we'd see him back.

Hernandez, 27, started off the 2017 campaign hot, hitting .323 with four doubles, two triples and four home runs during the month of April. His average slumped below .300 after hitting just .245 in May and he played in eight games during the month of June before hitting the disabled list.
For the time being, it looks like the Phillies will use Howie Kendrick at second base and utilize Daniel Nava more in the outfield, but with Cesar out for longer than a month, it may make sense to give Scott Kingery a Major League test. The 23-year-old second baseman is performing very well with Double-A Reading, hitting .306 with 12 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs and 35 RBIs. He leads the Eastern League in runs scored (55), home runs (18), total bases (145) and ranks second in slugging percentage (.631) and on-base plus slugging (1.007). The Phillies' record isn't good, so there isn't really much to lose in promoting Kingery, having Kendrick go back to the outfield and Nava as the fourth guy off the bench.
