Kyle Lowry interested in playing for Philadelphia

The Philadelphia 76ers are done playing basketball for the year, awaiting the summer free agency period. The Toronto Raptors star point guard Kyle Lowry will enter unrestricted free agency in July, where a long list of teams will attempt to add him to their rosters.

At the top of Lowry's list, however, sits the Sixers – his hometown. Further, the Sixers president of operations Brian Colangelo and Lowry are good friends, reportedly pointing to the couple being reunited in Philly. Colangelo was the Raptors GM in 2012, acquiring Lowry from the Houston Rockets. According to philly.com, the interest is mutual, as Lowry has been "interested for some time" in playing for the Sixers.

Many sources suggest that the Sixers may be interested in giving Lowry the big contract he is looking for. On Twitter, Keith Pompey posted that the Sixers "should go hard after Lowry", adding that Lowry would bring the Sixers roster some credibility considering the rest of the team is young. This addition could also lure more free agents who are looking for a young team with potential to the Sixers.

Lowry, a North Philly native, averages 14.3 PPG, 5.8 APG, and 4.1 RPG in 13 seasons in the NBA. Lowry also played two seasons at Villanova. He would bring an immediate presence to the backcourt for the Sixers while providing veteran leadership to a young team. The Sixers certainly have enough money to sign a top free agent when the summer rolls around.
