With 20 minutes to play, the Flyers essentially had the Winnipeg Jets where they wanted them. Though the Jets were generating chances, you could tell they were on the ropes, and feeling the effects of missing five key defensemen.
Blake Wheeler had other ideas, though. Wheeler put the Jets ahead at 7:02 of the third period, and set up Mark Scheifele's insurance tally with 6:09 left on the clock, sealing a 3-2 win.
Jordan Weal continued his hot start to get the Flyers started in the second with his fourth of the season, but Mathieu Perreault countered less than three minutes later. Wheeler assisted on that goal as well, giving him three points.
Matt Read tipped home a Michael Del Zotto drive with two seconds left for a shorthanded goal, but at that point, it was too little, too late.
Steve Mason turned in a 30-save effort in goal for the Flyers. Michael Hutchinson countered with 24 saves on 26 shots, as the Flyers made yet another backup goaltender look good.
The loss snaps a six-game Flyers win streak against the Jets, a streak dating back to Nov. 29, 2013. It's also their first regulation loss in Winnipeg since April 6, 2013.
The Flyers' road trip continues Thursday, when they return to the States for a matchup with the Minnesota Wild.
