The Sixers lost their first of two games in Los Angeles by a score of 112-110, splitting their season series with the Clippers.
The game was close until the final quarter, with the Sixers trading the lead with the Clippers throughout the first half.
The Clippers held a 32-30 lead after the first quarter, led by Chris Paul's 10 points. Richaun Holmes was a difference maker for the Sixers coming of of the bench, leading the Sixers with nine in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the tight play continued, and the Sixers held a 57-56 lead at half time. The S
ixers trailed and were playing catchup in the second quarter until Brett Brown made the decision to intentionally foul Deandre Jordan, who shoots below 50% from the free throw line. Jordan went 3-of-4 from the line in the first half, but the decision sowed the game down and began to shift momentum into the Sixers favor.
Deandre Jordan was dominant, registering his 29th double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds at halftime. Richaun Holmes led the Sixers with 14 points at the half, with Jahlil Okafor and Dario Saric also in double figures at the half.
The third quarter saw the theme of trading leads continue. The Sixers persevered again and held a 4 point lead after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter the tables turned, and the Clippers ran away. The Clippers opened the quarter with five consecutive points, and they did not look back from there. With about four minutes left in the game Brett Brown employed the strategy again of sending Deandre Jordan to the line. Jordan hit four of the next six free throw shots to effectively seal the win for the Clippers.
The Clippers outscored the Sixers 37-21 in the fourth quarter, led by Chris Paul's game-high 30 points. Deandre Jordan scored 19 to go with his 20 rebounds, and Blake Griffin also registered double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. J.J. Reddick and former Sixers first round pick Marreese Speights also reached double figures.
The Sixers were led by Richaun Holmes, who scored a career-high 24 points off of the bench, and also tallied nine rebounds. Starting center Jahlil Okafor scored 14 points before leaving the game with an apparent injury. Dario Saric and Robert Covington also reached double figures, scoring 16 and 13 points, respectively. T.J. McConnel scored nine points and had 10 assists, finishing one point shy of a double-double.
The Sixers shot well over 40% from three in the first half, but could not duplicate their success in the second half, finishing the game shooting 33.3% from three.
The Sixers will play again tomorrow night at 9:30 p.m. when they will meet the Los Angeles Lakers inside of the same building that they played in tonight.
Gerald Henderson is expected to play in that game, but Okafor's status remains up in the hair.
