Chase Utley Will Return to Dodgers on One-Year Deal
Former Phillies second baseman Chase Utley has a new new home. While published reports had Utley choosing from four different teams, Utley is staying put. According to Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times, Utley has agreed to return to the Dodgers on a one-year deal.
The Dodgers will not utilize Utley for the starting position at second base. The Dodgers traded prized pitching prospect Jose DeLeon this offseason to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Logan Forsythe. The Dodgers have used Utley at third base, second base, and first base since joining the Dodgers during the 2015 season. Besides Forsythe at second base, the Dodgers have Adrian Gonzalez at first base and Justin Turner at third base, so Utley will likely be serving in a utility role.
Utley and the Dodgers will be at Citizens Bank Park for a four-game series September 18 – 21.
