The Philadelphia 76ers have been hot since the turn of the calendar year and one of the reasons for their resurgence has been the steady play of T.J. McConnell as their starting point guard. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Cleveland Cavaliers reached out to the Sixers about trading for McConnell, but were shot down.

Pompey went on to write that the Cavs deal would have brought forward Jordan McRae back to Philadelphia, where he was drafted back in 2014. After playing in Australia during the 2014-15 season, the Sixers waived him in October 2015.
LeBron James indicated earlier this month that Cleveland could use another point guard and Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio confirmed that the team was indeed getting the ball rolling on a potential trade.
The Sixers have just looked like a better team with McConnell as the starting point guard and the former undrafted free agent is embracing the role. In 12 games since the start of the new year, TJ is averaging 8.9 assists per game, good for 7th in the NBA this month ahead of LeBron James and Steph Curry.
