October 29th, 2008. After Game 5 of the World Series had been delayed for over 46 hours, the Philadelphia Phillies were finally able to claim a second championship. In the days that followed, players became synonymous with the team and the city. Coaches became a part of our family. The Phillies became the city's number one team. A historic motto coined by Chase Utley at the celebration parade two days later became a staple of that year's squad. It was all so perfect.
Now, five years later, we're left with chilling memories, none more personal than in the video above. Harry Kalas, taken away from his family and friends just months later, left us with the most heart-warming call of pitch we'll likely ever witness. For one moment, we can even set aside our disdain for Chris Wheeler, as he and his leather jacket celebrated just as the rest of the fanbase did that night.
The outlook of this franchise has dramatically turned since that emotional 2008 playoff run. However, for at least one day, we can reflect back on a time we will tell our grandchildren about.
