I shouldn't even have to give grades to this bullpen, because they were easily the worst part of a bad team. From bust signings to prospect busts, to a closer who doesn't shut up, this group sucked.
- Jonathan Papelbon- 5-1, 2.92, almost a K per inning, and 29 saves, sounds good right? No. Seven blown saves, a leaky second half, declining fastball, inability to put hitters away, and hitters hitting the ball harder off of him made this a mediocre season. C.
- Mike Adams- The big signing of the off-season gave us 28 games. F.
- Chad Durbin- Remember when he was on the team? Don't worry, I try to forget too. F.
- Antonio Bastardo- The best reliever on the team, until he was suspended for PED use. That hurts his grade. C-.
- Jeremy Horst- A 6.23 ERA speaks for itself. The guy was clearly hurt, but still. Bad year. F.
- Raul Valdes- He had a 7.46 ERA, and that came down in his second stint up. He's already gone. F.
- Phillippe Aumont- No one, and I mean no one, was more disappointing to me this season. I was a believer in him before the season. Not now. F.
- Mike Stutes- Injuries didn't help Stutes. He wasn't really all that good either. D.
- Justin De Fratus- De Fratus held his own in his first extended stay in the big leagues. He wasn't great, but he was plenty adequate. His 58 appearances was second on the team, and his stat line suggests he's capable. B-.
- Jake Diekman- The bright spot in a loser of a group. He and Bastardo give next year's bullpen a start on the left-side. A.
- B.J. Rosenberg- A late season push gives Rosenberg a shot to make next year's team. He was really good in August, after a bad earlier stint, and showed he may have a late inning arm after all. May. B-.
- Luis Garcia- That we're discussing this guy after the season should alarm you. I didn't know who he was until he came up. His numbers were actually alright though in the end. I'm being liberal with the term "alright," so bare with me. C+.
- Cesar Jimenez- Line him up in the same camp as Garcia. Again, he wasn't so terrible. He is gone already though. I'd consider bringing him back on a minor league deal though. C+.
- J.C. Ramirez- A second reliever from the Lee to Seattle deal who was awful this year. Make it stop. F.
- Joe Savery- In a year where everything went wrong, Savery pitched alright. It's interesting that he really didn't figure in more. B.
- Zach Miner- He wasn't great, wasn't helplessly bad, overall not so good. C-.
- Mauricio Robles- But, but…. he dominated in Reading! F.
God help me. Expect Papelbon, Adams, Bastardo, and Diekman at least to be back.
