With the 2017 NHL Draft now complete, reviews start pouring in about teams that fared well and did not.
For the Flyers, there was no way to go wrong with the second overall pick. Nolan Patrick was certainly going to get rave reviews and did. But what about the rest of the picks, including the two picks they traded up for at 27th overall and 35th overall?
So far, the Flyers have been getting positive reviews on that end as well. Here's what others are saying about the Flyers draft.
Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News chose the Flyers as a winner on draft weekend for addressing positional needs.
"The Flyers traded up twice early on in the draft to get their guy. I like that; why risk missing on Morgan Frost or Isaac Ratcliffe if you really like them? GM Ron Hextall has been a draft master during his tenure in Philly, stacking picks and making nice selections. This year was no different with Noah Cates (a raw Joe Pavelski type), big goalie Kirill Ustimenko and that kid who went second overall who might be pretty decent…
"All jokes aside, Hextall and his staff get lots of different skill sets and positional needs every draft, which puts them in a great spot for the future."
Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy on Yahoo! Sports also picked the Flyers as a weekend winner.
"While we don’t love Lehtera, getting two first rounders in that Schenn swap is a ridiculously good return. They used the one in this draft on Morgan Frost at No 27, who has playmaking skills if not exactly love for the Flyers. In Nolan Patrick at No. 2, they get the second best forward in the draft and a better goal scorer than the guy who went No. 1. The aggressive trade to select Isaac Ratcliffe at No. 35, the Matthew Strome pick at No. 106…just a really great two days from Ron Hextall and company."
Kevin Allen of USA Today graded the week leading up to the draft, including Friday's first round. Even with Patrick's selection, they viewed the Flyers as losers in the Schenn trade, but the grades were from before the team's Day 2 picks.
"It’s hard to like this trade from the Flyers’ perspective, even though they ended up with two first-round picks. The second first-rounder is contingent on the pick not being in the top 10.
"Schenn generates offense and Lehtera’s value has decreased dramatically. Schenn is only 25. Aren't the Flyers supposed to rise up next season? Those first-round picks better yield good results."
Grant McCagg of Recrutes praised Ron Hextall's moves early in the draft, notably the trades to get back into the first round and move up in the second to get players they had ranked higher on their draft board. He also noted that he loved the Morgan Frost selection at 27.
BTW- I'm assuming Ratcliffe was in the Flyers top 25..otherwise they wouldn't have moved up to that spot. No verification..just makes sense.

Mike Chiari of Bleacher Report gave the Flyers an A grade at the draft, tied for the highest mark with the Vegas Golden Knights.
"The Philadelphia Flyers potentially saw the top player in the draft fall into their laps at No. 2 in the form of Patrick, but that was far from their only coup Friday and Saturday.
"Patrick is coming off a season that saw him appear in only 33 games because of injury, but he racked up 102 points in 2015-16, and every indication is he will be a No. 1 center at the NHL level provided he can stay healthy.
"The Flyers selected an additional two promising forwards, as a trade with the St. Louis Blues allowed them to take center Morgan Frost at No. 27 before nabbing left winger Isaac Ratcliffe early in the second round.
"Frost is coming off a season that saw him put up 62 points in 67 games in the OHL, while Ratcliffe was a 28-goal scorer for the OHL's Guelph Storm.
"Since the Flyers already have a bevy of up-and-coming defensemen, building up the forward group was a clear focus entering the draft.
"They did precisely that by landing a player who should help immediately, along with two forwards who could play significant roles further down the road."
Flyers fans will have their first chance to see the nine draft picks take the ice at development camp. The on-ice sessions for camp are expected to start on July 7 and run through July 11. Hextall said he expects all nine draft picks to be in attendance. An official schedule and roster for development camp has not yet been released.
