The Eagles did not surprise many when they decided to trade out of the first round. While they added a second round selection in 2019 to their draft capital, they still only have six picks in this year's draft. The difference is that now they have a second round pick instead of a first round pick.
The Eagles will go on the clock with the 52nd overall selection in the second round on Friday night. With some big names slipping out of the first round, the Eagles have a chance to acquire a great player late in the second round. Take a look below at what players could be wearing midnight green in the fall.
Running Backs
Derrius Guice
Guice has been rumored to be a very popular within the Eagles draft room. Guice himself has expressed a desire to join the Eagles. If the Eagles were in love with Guice as a prospect they likely would have taken him at 32, but if he reaches 52nd overall it would be hard for the eagles to pass on him again.
Nick Chubb
A year ago Chubb was viewed as a top running back prospect. He was far from disappointing with Georgia in 2017, but a committee approach in Georgia likely hurt his stock. He also battled through a significant injury in his college days – which may also be chasing teams away.
Ronald Jones Jr.
Like Guice, some expected Jones to be the second running back off of the board instead of Raashad Penny, but instead he finds himself waiting to hear his name called on day two. There may be a run on running backs in the second round with three going in the first round. The Eagles will have to wait and see if any of these names that were rumored to be first rounders at one time will fall to them.
Wide Receivers
Courtland Sutton
Sutton was discussed as replacement for Dez Bryant in Dallas, and it is easy to see why. The SMU captain has elite size for the position, which the Eagles could use. The addition of Alshon Jeffery, who is known for using his size to win balls, dramatically improved the Eagles red zone offense last season. Adding a similar receiver would create even more matchup problems for opposing defenses.
Christian Kirk
Kirk is a speedster and profiles as a slot receiver in the NFL. It is hard to imagine Nelson Agholot relinquishing the position after his outburst last season, so Kirk may not make sense for the Eagles. Regardless, the team met with him at the NFL Draft Combine so they have expressed interest in the receiver.
James Washington
Washington put up ridiculous numbers alongside Mason Rudolph at Oklahoma State. He looks like a running back physically, but his ability to separate down the field and make big plays is undeniable.
Dante Pettis
Dante Pettis is not one of the recevers who were viewed as a potential first rounder, but Pettis does a lot of things well. He has decent size and good hands to go with good route running ability. Pettis needs some polish, but he could be a potential name you hear called at 52nd overall.
Jordan Lasley
Lasley can come into Philadephia and add speed to the outside that was lost when the tea traded Torrey Smith to the Carolina Panthers. Lasley played with first-round pick Josh Rosen at UCLA who may have helped his stock some. Lasley did meet with the Eagles at the draft combine.
Tight Ends
Dallas Goedert
Goedert is viewed as a special athlete. Interestingly, a lot of people compare the big tight end to Zach Ertz because of his athleticism and ability as a reciever. The pairing of Goedert and Ertz could make a lot of sense for the team who used the most two-tight end formations in the NFL last season.
Mike Gesicki
The Penn State tight end consistently wowed crowds and scouts with his play in Happy Valley. He is perhaps the safest tight end pick in the entire draft, it is just a matter of how good he can actually become in the NFL.
Mark Andrews
Some had a first round grade on Mark Andrews, but he likely will land right around where the Eagles pick in the second round. Andrews is impressive physically, and might reach his first round potential in the Eagles system that uses a lot of short passing schemes.
Dalton Schultz
Schultz could fill in the hole left by Brent Celek as the extra blocking tight end. Schultz, however, has more potential as a pass catcher than Celek. Regardless, Schultz's skills as a blocker will make him an appealing target.
Offensive Linemen
Connor Williams
There is mystery surrounding Williams in terms of where he will play and if he can stay healthy. Williams has perhaps the best tape and on-field production of any tackle in the draft, but his other question marks have pushed him outside of the first round.
Orlando Brown
Brown saw his stock plummet after a poor combine performance. The son of a hall of fame tackle has the pedigree to be one of the best tackles int he game. He never allowed a sack in college and consistently performed well inside of games. He could be a great value pick at 52nd overall.
Martinas Rankin
Rankin has experience playing tackle, but some believe he will thrive int he NFL if he plays along the interior. The Eagles need depth at both spots, so Rankin could be an interesting name for them if they want a utility offensive lineman.
Chukwuma Okorafor
Okorafor is a physical specimen, but the Eagles will need to coach him up for him to be able to step into an NFL game. Luckiy he would have a year behind Jason Peters and Lane Johnson to learn.
Tyrell Crosby
Crosby likely would play right tackle in the NFL, which would force the Eagles to shuffle their current configuration if they decide that the Oregon is worthy of protecting Carson Wentz for the foreseeable future.
Brian O'Neill
A lot of early mock drafts had O'Neill going to the Eagles. He is a large and athletic offensive lineman whose blend of size and speed could be attractive.
James Daniels
James Daniels was viewed as a day one starter at center by a lot of pundits. IT wa shonestly surprising to see two centers go int he first round and neither one be him. He could give the Eagles a cost effective succession to Jason Kelce.
Defensive Linemen
Tim Settle
Settle had a formal meeting with the eagles at the Draft Combine and stood out in Bud Foster's defense at Virginia Tech. A poor combine day has hurt his stock and forced the fringe first-round talent into the second round.
Maurice Hurst
Hurst lost interest from some teams after a health scare, but he has since been deemed healthy enough to play football. If not for a deep defensive tackle class, Hurst would have been a first rounder.
Harrison Phillips
Like Hurst, if not for the deep class at defensive tackle Phillips likely would have heard his name called on day one.
Arden Key
In preseason mock draft Arden Key was a lock or the top 10 but a down year at LSU has raised eyebrows and now the former top-10 lock is still waiting to hear his name called after the first day of the draft.
Harold Landry
Landry was an easy first-round talent evaluation, but questions about his health caused him to slip. The Eagles do not need another defensive end, but talents like Key and Landry would be very tough to pass on if they remain on the board at 52nd overall.
Linebackers
Malik Jefferson
Malik Jefferson impressed the Eagles scouting staff, wit Jefferson telling media members at the combine that the Eagles told him that they admired his instinctual playing style. Jefferson is also close with current Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks with them both being Texas alumni.
Defensive Backs
Justin Reid
Like Guice, Reid was one of the prospects that the Eagles were reportedly enamored with. Reid possesses a willingness to get physical and exceptional athleticism. He could fill in for Rodney McLeod if the team decides to shed McLeod's contract in the coming years.
Donte Jackson
It is hard to go wrong with drafting cornerbacks from LSU. Jalen Mills is a small name compared to the other greats to come from Death Valley, but has given the Eagles a taste of what they will get from someone cut from the LSU cloth. Jackson. Jackson has elite speed, posting a 4.32 40 yard dash at the combine.
Kyzir White
The Eagles will be familiar with Kyzir White from their time scouting Rasul Douglas at West Virginia where White was a team captain. He has good size and brings the things that you cannot teach like toughness and leadership skills. If the Eagles are determined to take a safety and Reid has come off of the board, then White could be their consolation prize.
