The New York Giants might just be the gift that keeps on giving in the NFC East.

Last season, New York’s bumbling football team gifted the Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley in free agency. Everyone has seen the clip from HBO’s Hard Knocks where general manager Joe Schoen is discussing Barkley’s free agency with team president and CEO John Mara. Mara tells Schoen he would have a “tough time sleeping” if Barkley ends up in South Philly.

You know, this clip:

That seemed to work well for Big Blue, right?

Instead of firing Schmucko Schoen (please note, this is not my nickname for Mr. Schoen but that of a long-time New York Giants season ticket holder. So hold off on the hate!) and head coach Brian Daboll, the Giants have given the dynamic duo one more season to “right the ship” in Northern New Jersey. With that edict, desperate times call for desperate measures…or something like that.

Enter Aaron Rodgers

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Gints have shifted their focus to Rodgers after Matthew Stafford restructured his deal to remain with the Los Angeles Rams. Seriously.

Rodgers, 41, is coming off of two seasons with the other bumbling New York football team, the New York Jets. The sometimes shaman famously tore his Achilles four plays into the 2023-24 NFL regular season on Monday Night Football.  Rodgers returned from injury in time for the start of the 2024-25 NFL regular season and had a very good year for a very bad team. The future Hall of Famer totaled 3,897 yards passing with 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions for a team that went 5-12 and fired their head coach.

However, because Rodgers is a malcontent, the Jets have decided to move on.

Enter the Giants.

After nearly a decade of disastrous decision making by former GM Dave Gettleman and the aforementioned Schoen, New York has forced themselves into a “win now” mode instead of tanking and rebuilding their franchise from the ground up.

And for that, the rest of the NFC East fan bases should rejoice!  The Giants will undoubtedly go 9-7, make a one-and-done NFL playoff appearance, get a mediocre NFL Draft pick, and then fire their general manager and head coach!

Once again, the New York Football Giants…the gift that keeps on giving.
