The Philadelphia Phillies Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley have had a stellar pitching rotation for the majority of the year with Jake Thompson, Zach Eflin and Ben Lively all making multiple starts in Triple-A. One guy who is looking to get back up to the big leagues after starting the season in Philadelphia, though, is southpaw Adam Morgan. The 26-year-old was sent back down to the minors in July has put together some great outings in Lehigh Valley en route to earning Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of August 1-7.

He has a 6.65 ERA with the Phillies this season, but his Triple-A numbers have been impressive through eight games, seven starts, especially as of late. In two starts during the week of August 1-7, Morgan hurled 14.2 innings, allowed just two runs on six hits while piling up 17 strikeouts, 11 of which came in his most recent outing on Saturday night against Rochester.
In five games since his demotion to the Ironpigs, Morgan is 5-0 with a 2.76 ERA. If the Phillies are aiming to reduce the innings of young starters come late August, or early September, we could see Morgan along with his teammate David Buchanan back in red pinstripes. Buchanan is 5-2 with a 2.94 ERA in his last 10 starts. He was named IL Pitcher of the Week for July 18-24.
Morgan was selected by the Phillies in the third round of the 2011 draft and made it to Triple-A in 2013, but a shoulder injury cost him the entire 2014 season. He's appeared in 29 big league games for the Phillies between the 2015 and 2016 seasons
The Philadelphia Phillies minor league teams have been impressive this year with Double-A Reading posting the best record in all of professional baseball heading into play on Monday and Triple-A Lehigh Valley leading the IL Wild Card by 5.5 games while trailing Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by just two games International League North division.
Phillies No. 7 overall prospect Dylan Cozens won Eastern League Player of the Week for the second time this season after blasting five homers and compiling four multi-hit games during the past week of play.
