Adam Morgan slated for Major League debut on Sunday against St. Louis

Phillippe Aumont will start for the injured Cole Hamels tonight and on Sunday, with Jerome Williams now on the disabled list, the Phillies will call upon 25-year-old southpaw Adam Morgan to make his Major League debut.

Morgan, selected in the 3rd round of the 2011 draft, was once a highly regarded prospect in the Phillies organization. Flash back to two seasons ago, Morgan was getting his first experience in Triple-A en route to a possible promotion the Philadelphia, but injury issues plagued his development.

In January of 2014, Morgan had an operation on his pitching shoulder, causing him to miss the entire season last year. Fast forward to now, he will be making his big league debut for the Phillies on Sunday.

In 13 starts with the Ironpigs this season, Morgan is 0-6 with a 4.74 ERA. He was pulled after two innings in his start on Wednesday so he would be ready to go full steam ahead with the Phillies on Sunday. Morgan got the call over Severino Gonzalez, who struggled in Philadelphia, posting an 8.69 ERA in five starts. Morgan was also on the 40-man roster, so it made the decision easier for Phillies management.

In 69 games, 68 of which were starts at the Minor League level, Morgan is 13-28 with a 3.53 ERA. Opposing hitters have a .255 average against him over his career.

In order to make room for Morgan on the team, the Phillies will have to make a corresponding roster move on Sunday morning. If Cole Hamels looks to only miss one start, Phillippe Aumont could be one and done after Friday night. If Cole could miss more time, a triple to the disabled list would open up a spot for Morgan on Sunday.
