Adam Morgan to make season debut against Corey Kluber, Indians

By: Matt Rappa, managing editor

PHILADELPHIA — In their first meeting against the Cleveland Indians (10-9) since May 15, 2013, the Philadelphia Phillies (12-10) will look to extend their three-game win streak as left-hander Adam Morgan makes his season debut Friday evening at Citizens Bank Park.

Morgan, 26, was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley as a replacement in the starting rotation for right-hander Charlie Morton, who will miss the remainder of the season with a torn left hamstring suffered on April 23.

In opposition of the Phillies will be 2014 American League Cy Young Award winner RHP Corey Kluber, who tied with five other starting pitchers for the most complete games thrown last season, 4. The six-year veteran is two years removed from leading the American League in wins, 18 — tied with Max Scherzer and Jered Weaver — but is just one removed from leading the league in losses, 16.

Since Phillies manager Pete Mackanin began to bat the starting pitcher in the eighth position of the lineup on April 20, the Phillies have won six of seven games. The club averaged 2.47 runs per game in the 15 games prior to this change, and almost double that amount in their seven contests since, five runs per game.
