Final: Mets 9, Phillies 4  ❖  Attendance: 31,111

FLUSHING, N.Y.— The Phillies began their three-game road series against the New York Mets on Friday night, after coming off a span of three games of giving up 21 runs. Adam Morgan took the rubber for Philadelphia against an always capable 43 year-old Bartolo Colon of the Mets.

From the time the game started, it was almost inevitable that a blowout was in the sights of the Phillies' fans and players. A back-to-back home run barrage to start the game by Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera set the tone of the game early on.

Stemming from the giant first inning, Bartolo Colon pitched a no-hitter into the top of the fifth inning when Odubel Herrera smacked a double to break up the feat.

After the Mets' scoring barrage throughout the rest of the game, led by Cabrera's two homers and Wilmer Flores' grand slam, the Phillies found themselves in a deep hole.

A three-run eighth inning for the Phillies was too late, as they dropped the game by a score of 9-4. The Phillies drop to 59-69 on the year, as the Mets are now two games over .500 with a record of 65-63.

Philadelphia will look to avoid a series loss to the Mets on Saturday as the Phils send Jeremy Hellickson to face the Mets' Noah Syndergaard.

The contest at Citi Field started off with a bang, as Jose Reyes and Asdrubel Cabrera hit back-t0-back solo home runs off of Adam Morgan to give the Mets an early 2-0 lead over the Phillies.

Held scoreless and hitless until the fifth inning, Odubel Herrera  broke up Bartolo Colon's double. Phillies pitcher Adam Morgan drove in Herrera with a line drive single to left field. At this point, the Mets still held a 2-1 lead.

The Mets weren't comfortable enough with a one-run lead, however, as Wilmer Flores took advantage of the runners on first, second, and third with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to give New York a 6-1 lead.

Heading to the bottom of the sixth, Travis d'Arnaud hit line-drive double, that brought in Alejandro De Aza to extend the Mets lead to 7-1.

Asdrubel Cabrera wasn't satisfied with only one home run in the game, as he launched his second of the game, a two-run dinger in the bottom of the sixth inning, to give the Mets a 9-1 lead.

Determined to get the Phillies back into the game somehow in the top of the eighth inning, Cesar Hernandez hit a one out, two on double to give life back to the Phillies, now trailing 9-3.

In the same inning, Aaron Altherr decided to step up to the plate and follow in Hernandez' footsteps with an RBI double of his own, trimming the deficit to five runs, as the Phillies now trailed, 9-4.

After the eighth inning, there would be no more scoring as the Mets bullpen avoided a comeback by the Phillies after a three-run inning. The Mets take the series opener, 9-4.
