The Adirondack Phantoms and Portland Pirates partook in the old hockey tradition of a line brawl last Sunday, and today those chickens came to roost where the heart is. Or something. I lost myself in idioms.
ANYWAY, the American Hockey League has suspended the following Phantoms for their roles in this line brawl, per a Phantoms press release:
Kris Newbury – 4 games
Cal Heeter – 3 games
Zack FitzGerald – 2 games
Ben Holmstrom – 1 game
Tye McGinn – 1 game
Only one Pirate, Kyle Hagel, was suspended for this, which is obviously due to a leaguewide conspiracy spurred on by a clear bias against the Philadelphia Flyers organization and their 1970s reputation as the Broad Street Bullies.
329 total penalty minutes piled up during that game with Adirondack’s finest gathering 194 of those minutes. The Phantoms haven’t had this many penalty minutes since they were still playing across the parking lot from the Flyers and earned 210 minutes against the Binghamton Senators back in 2003.
The Phantoms' suspensions will begin at their upcoming home game against the Albany Devils this Friday. And just in time for them to take the ice at the Wells Fargo Center against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday! At least you’ll get your Tye McGinn and Ben Holmstrom fixes, Philadelphia.
