An Updated Look At The Phillies Minor Leagues

I was hoping to see Jon Pettibone tonight pitch for the Iron Pigs, but it rained. This is what becomes of a fan for a baseball team that isn't in the race. You are trying to see the prospects.

1. Jesse Biddle- The lefty, former first rounder, is having a good year at Clearwater, and just threw seven no-hit innings. His line: 9-5, 3.26 ERA, 129.2 IP, 137 K's, 51 BB's, 1.326 WHIP.
2. Trevor May- After entering the year as number one prospect, he's stumbled a little in Reading, with an up and down year. He's still striking out nearly a guy an inning. His walks are just up one per inning. I wouldn't give up on him over it though.
3. Tommy Joseph- Joseph was the #2 prospect in the Giants organization when the Phillies got him for Hunter Pence. He's off to a slow start in Reading, but no one will make a judgement yet.
4. Brody Colvin- Colvin's up and down, depending on the month, but when he's up, he's really impressive. He has managed to lose his spot in Clearwater's rotation, gain it back, and get promoted to Reading in one year.
5. Philippe Aumont- It's almost unfair to count the Iron Pigs closer in here- he's just been called up. He's been pretty good, post-early injury. His big issue is the occasional lack of command.
6. Sebastian Valle- So the real question here is, him or Joseph? He's played well for the Iron Pigs, after being an All-Star for the R-Phils. He's a solid defensive catcher with a decent bat.
7. Cesar Hernandez- So he finished up hitting over .300 in Reading and got promoted to hit lead-off and play second in AAA. He would seem to be in a good position with Chase Utley entering a contract year with injury issues.
8. Justin De Fratus- He's battled injuries this year, but he's likely to get a call-up in September. He's pitched pretty well.
9. Ethan Martin- The second trade pick-up to make this list, he's throwing well for Reading so far. He's 4-0, with a 1.48 ERA so far.
10. Jon Pettibone- His total line is 12-7, with a 3.10 ERA, in 142.1 IP and a 1.19 WHIP between AA and AAA.
11. Darin Ruf- He's hit 30 homers in Reading, and he's got a shot to win the triple crown in the Eastern League. If he were moving to AAA, he'd be higher, but he's not for now.
12. Larry Greene- The top 2011 pick of the Phillies in the supplementary round. His .249 average, 2 homers, and .701 OPS may not jump off the page at you, but it's not a bad start for a 19 year old in his first year of pro ball.
13. Kelly Dugan- The former first pick of the Phillies is stepping out this year in Lakewood. His .861 OPS, .295 average, 12 homers, and 41 extra-base hits are getting him noticed.
14. Roman Quinn- The second pick in 2011 is playing up to his billing. His .281 and .767 OPS in his first pro season, have people thinking he's as good as he was sold as.
15. Maikel Franco- The third baseman has 14 homers this year, which would rate him higher, if he were above Lakewood. His .756 OPS isn't too bad. He turns 20 on Sunday.
16. Julio Rodriguez- He was good enough in the first half to make the All-Star team in Reading, but he's not been great overall. Once again though, he's striking out more than a man an inning, but walking too many.
17. Tyson Gillies- His stock is falling following a suspension, but his numbers this year aren't bad. His .288 average and .793 OPS keep some hope in him, but he's not looking bright these days.
18. Tyler Cloyd- He's 15-1 with a 2.19 ERA. Regardless of what you think of his stuff, or whether or not you think he's a fluke, he's earning a shot at making it to the big leagues.
19. Lisalberto Bonilla- Right about the time he was taking off at the Future's Game, he got injured horsing around. He still helped his stock out a lot this season, and will look to take the next step forward.
20. Leandro Castro- The outfielder has hit decently at each level. His lack of "hoopla" over his stats reminds me of Quintin Berry- who's playing for the Tigers now.
