Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. appeared on the Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 the Fanatic this afternoon, and gave some interesting insights into both the 2014 Phillies and the 2014 Phillies coaching staff.
Missanelli, always a good interviewer, jumped right into the question of new manager Ryne Sandberg's coaching staff. Here is the quote from 97.5 The Fanatic's Twitter page:
RAJ on Sandberg's staff: We're going to work together on it. There may be some guys that he really likes that I don't really like.
Right away I thought maybe that the one he likes that Amaro does not like is one Larry Bowa. So, Mike Missanelli had to ask directly about Larry Bowa. "Do you like Larry Bowa?" Missanelli asked.
"I like Larry as a person"
What do I read from that? Ruben Amaro Jr. does not like Larry Bowa as a coach.
As for the 2014 Phillies, after suggesting that Cody Asche and Darin Ruf are decent locks for the 2014 squad, Amaro stopped short of calling them starters.
"Asche is not a slam dunk for us and Ruf is not a slam dunk for us as everyday players. […] We'll do what we can to make team better."
