The Commissioner of the NBA isn't going anywhere, at least not until 2024.
The NBA Board of Governors Chairman and Toronto Raptors Governor Larry Tanenbaum announced Wednesday that Adam Silver has been extended as the commissioner of the league through the 2023-24 season.
Silver was the NBA Deputy Commissioner before becoming Commissioner to succeed David Stern in 2014. He's been a part of the league since 1992.
During his tenure as Commissioner, he has witnessed a lot of things, but he is most known in Sixers land as the commissioner that forced Sam Hinkie out as GM of the team and brought in the Colangelo family to take over the team.
Silver is not-so-affectionately known by the Sixers' podcast "The Rights to Ricky Sanchez" as 'Commissioner Dave Silver.'
In 2014, he was named the Sports Illustrated Executive of the Year.
In 2015, Silver was named Executive of the Year by Sports Business Journal. That year he was also named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People and one of Fortune's 50 Greatest Leaders. In 2016, Sports Business Journal ranked Silver No. 1 on its list of the 50 Most Influential People in Sports Business.
