Charles placed on IR: After feeling soreness in his surgically repaired right knee over the last two weeks, Kansas City Chiefs pro bowl running back Jamaal Charles was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Dr. James Andrews is expected to conduct a minor procedure on Charles' knee Wednesday to assess the damage and determine what the next step should be, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Due to the nature of IR, the 29-year-old will have to miss a minimum of eight weeks before suiting up again, meaning that there's a real possibility that his season is over. However, he could play in the playoffs if the 5-2 Chiefs make it in.
Charles is coming off a torn ACL that he suffered last Oct. that cost him most of the 2015 season. He saw little playing this season while he still recovered from the injury, totaling just 12 carries for a meager 40 yards and one touchdown over three games.
Spencer Ware has served well as the Chief's featured back in Charles' absence, averaging five yards per carry on 102 attempts this season. He did suffer a concussion against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, and is undergoing league concussion protocol. If Ware can't go this week, Charcandrick West is the primary backup.
West filled in nicely for the injured Charles last season, rushing 160 times for 634 yards and four touchdowns.
Vikings OC resigns: Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Nov Turner abruptly resigned Wednesday following the team's second straight loss.
In his place, tight ends coach Pat Shurmur will be promoted to interim offensive coordinator.
"I have tremendous respect for [head coach] Mike Zimmer, our coaching staff and our players and at this time I think it is in the best interest of the team to step down," Turner said in a statement, via ESPN. "I thank the Wilf family for my time here in Minnesota and want to see our players and coaches achieve success."
The Vikings sprinted out of the gates to a 5-0 record this season, but have lost two straight since coming out of their bye. While their defense has played like a top-5 unit, their offense has struggled to score points with a banged up offensive line and no Adrian Peterson.
Zimmer told reporters Wednesday that he was "very, very surprised" by Turner's resignation, adding that there was no communication about the decision.
The Vikings' offense has scored just 20 points in their last two games and rank second-to-last in the league in total offense and yards per game with 293.3.
Shurmur and Sam Bradford have worked together in the past in St. Louis and Philadelphia. Shurmur was the Rams' offensive coordinator during Bradford's rookie season and was the OC for one game after Chip Kelly was fired by the Eagles last season.
At 5-2, the Vikings are still in first place in the NFC North. They'll host the division rival Detroit Lions this Sunday.
Trent Williams suspended: The Washington Redskins have lost left tackle Trent Williams for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
The 28-year-old will be eligible to return on Dec. 5, just in time for a divisional match up with the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 11.
"The Redskins are counting on Trent to help our team when he returns from suspension," the team said in a statement, via ESPN. "Our focus will now turn to the Minnesota Vikings after our bye this upcoming weekend. Any questions related to this matter should be directed to the NFL or NFLPA."
The loss of the four time Pro Bowl tackle is a big blow to Washington's offense, especially this week as they face a relentless Minnesota Vikings defense. He will also miss the team's games against the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals.
Jets sign Davis, sign Spiller, release Davis: The New York Jets were active with their running back situation Tuesday as they claimed free agen RB Kniles Davis off waivers only to replace him with the unretired C.J. Spiller hours later.

Davis was officially placed on waivers by the Jets at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The 25-year-old has been on three different teams in the span of two weeks. He was originally traded by the Kansas City Chiefs to the Green Bay Packers, where he carried the ball just five times in two games before being released Monday.
Spiller was also released multiple times this season, getting cut by the New Orleans Saints back in Sept. and then joining the Seattle Seahawks briefly before being released again after a one-month stint.
With a banged up Jets backfield, Davis provides some much needed depth in case things go south.
