Mats Zuccarello scored with just 56 seconds left in the third period to give the New York Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday. The win was New York's ninth straight and 11th in their last 13 contests. They are now 14-2-2 on the season and sit atop the NHL standings.
After starting the season 0-2-0, New York has gone 11-0-2 since to give them a two point lead Montreal for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. It is the longest winning streak for the Broadway Blueshirts since the 1972-73 season.
They have a chance to tie the franchise mark when they head to Tampa Bay to face the Lightning on Thursday.
Lucky 13
Patrick Kane has seemingly shook off all the offseason turmoil that followed him into the start of the season. The Chicago star scored a second period goal in Sunday's 4-1 win over Calgary to extend his point streak to 13 games.
He now has 28 points on the year, two ahead of Tyler Seguin. His 13 goals are also tops in the NHL, one ahead of Seguin's teammate and reigning Art Ross Trophy winner Jamie Benn.
At his current pace he would score 127 points this season. While that number is highly unlikely in today's NHL, a 100 point season is not out of the question. Kane, Benn and Seguin have to be considered the early front runners for the Hart Trophy.
Dubinsky
Columbus forward Brandon Dubinsky was a late scratch for Friday night's tilt with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was also scratched for Saturday's game Arizona.
Head coach John Tortorella informed the media that Dubinsky was going to be placed on IR and miss two to three weeks with an undisclosed elbow injury. The Jackets bench boss would not comment further on how or when the injury occurred.
His 11 points are second on the team in scoring.
Kudos to Home Teams
Throughout the NHL this weekend, the league and in particular the home teams did a fantastic job with it's tributes to France. The blue, white and red of the French flag displayed on the ice, moments of silence and the playing of the French National Anthem were staples around the league.
The NHL showed that while the games are played in North America, it is a global league.
