With Anaheim's 4-1 loss to the Sharks on Sunday, the Los Angeles Kings now have the longest winning streak in the league. The Kings have now won six in a row following their victory on Sunday over Columbus.
Jonathan Quick has been, well, Jonathon Quick. The Kings netminder is 5-1-1 on the season with a .957 save percentage, 1.61 goals again average and two shutouts. His last shutout set the all time Kings franchise mark.
Offensively L.A. is led by the duo of Jeff Carter, five goals and twelve points, Tyler Toffoli, four goals and twelve points, and Tanner Pearson who leads the team with seven goals. The Kings will look to keep the momentum going as they head East on a five game road trip.
Hockey night in Canada took on a whole new meaning this weekend. In light of the recent shootings in Ottawa, three normally bitter rivals stood tall as one on Saturday.
Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal simulcasted a riveting rendition of the Canadian national anthem on Saturday. The anthem was sung live in Ottawa. Via a video feed, it was broadcast so the anthem was played at the same time in Toronto and Montreal. It was the first game played in all three stadiums at the same time since the shootings.
There was a bit of a scary scene in L.A. last night. Columbus forward Nick Foligno was carted off on a stretcher after a collison near the blue line. The incident happened about midway through the third period of the Jackets 5-2 loss.
Foligno and Kings forward Jeff Carter were battling for the puck along the wall. As they approached the blue line, linesman Shane Heyer jumped onto the dasher. Foligno's head hit Heyer and he immediately went down. He remained motionless on the ice for a few moments.
Columbus president John Davidson issued a statement saying he would be ok. They did perform precautionary x-rays at the Staples Center and Foligno is expected to fly home with the team.
Finally, as we come to the end of Hockey Fights Cancer month, the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators did it right. Team captains Jonathan Toews and Erik Karlsson presented their sticks to a cancer patient after a ceremonial puck drop. It was an awesome gesture by the teams.
