Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray. Murray was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer over the summer. In an interview the other day he has publicly acknowledged for the first time that his condition is uncureable.
Murray is the older brother of former Flyers and current Phantoms head coach Terry Murray. Doctor's told the 71 year old that he could possibly have had the condition for as many as ten years. He will undergo chemotherapy to try to reduce the number of tumors throughout his body.
Perhaps the most puzzling thing in all this was the fact Murray had reportedly had no symptoms. His body gave him no indication that something was wrong for the amount of time he has had the disease. His message for everyone, get checked. Had this been done, they might have been able to supress it.
A father of two, Murray has been involved in hockey his entire life. He got his start in the NHL in 1981 as head coach of the Washington Capitals. He has also coached the Redwings, Panthers, Ducks and Senators. Since the 2007 season, he has been the Seantors general manager.
In seventeen seasons behind an NHL bench, his teams went a combined 620-465-131-23. Murray coached four division winning teams and led the Senators to the 2006-07 Stanley Cup final. Here at Flyerdelphia we send our thoughts and prayers to the entire Murray family.
