Phillies foe the Atlanta Braves got a new ballpark back in 1997, just seven years before the Phillies opened Citizens Bank Park. Could you imagine the Phillies building a new stadium ten years from now? The Braves are doing it, in what will be Sun Trust Park in the northern Atlanta suburbs. The team recently released new artist renderings of what the stadium would be like, and the artist represented the team as a loser.
Mike Axisa of CBS Sports writes,
Looks like a great ballpark. Same with the development around the park. Looks like there will be lots to do and plenty of stores to visit before and after games in the immediate area. There's just one small problem with this rendering. The Braves are losing to the Nationals. Let's zoom in on that big center field scoreboard: Oh yeah, the Braves are definitely losing 6-3 to the Nationals in the rendering of their own new park. They've committed an error too.
Will the Phillies be winners by 2017? I am not sure, but the Braves apparently will not be.
One thing I personally really enjoyed about the Braves' new ballpark: a brew pub. The Beer Street Journal penned this piece about the 365-day brew pub that will be in the ball park. But if the Atlanta Braves ballteam on the field will drive people to drink, this might be the perfect addition.
