On Wednesday night, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the NHL and NHLPA is working toward a 24-team playoff setup that would be conference-based and it certainly has an interesting structure.

At the start of the 1979-80 season, the Flyers opened with a win over the Islanders on Oct. 11 and a loss to the Atlanta Flames two nights later. Their third game of the season was the next night on Oct. 14, and the Flyers squeaked out a 4-3 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs. That was the start of a streak that lasted nearly three months and spanned 35 games.

The series of greatest moments continues with a moment that is not a great moment, but a tribute to one of the greatest players the Flyers franchise has ever known, Pelle Lindbergh.

The scene shifted to Philadelphia for the final game on April 11 and it set up one of the best finishes and a memorable playoff run. Here is a look back at the Shootout.

With everything going their way, pushing pause had to be difficult. Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher joined Mike Gill on The Sports Bash on 97.3 ESPN on Monday afternoon and offered his thoughts.

Ron Hextall was fired as Flyers GM over a year ago in late November of 2018 and yet his fingerprints remain all over this roster. In an interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark, Hextall expressed his feelings for the current team and the young players experiencing some success.

There was plenty of excitement in the air as the Flyers played host to the opening games of the series and there were certainly moments of doubt within the series where it seemed like the Flyers would not make it out and continue their quest for the Cup. They needed to find a way to win in Toronto to get it done, and finally did in Game 6, which became a monumental moment for the Flyers.

This series was a seven-game showdown that truly went back and forth. When the Flyers had their backs against the wall in Game 6, a late goal flipped the series back around and helped it reach the distance. In the end, just two goals separated the teams in the seven-game series and it was a one-goal margin in Game 7 that decided the series.
