Patience is not something typically associated with the Philadelphia Flyers. Ron Hextall’s process to building a contender required patience. It ultimately ran out and it cost Hextall his job.

The Flyers finally made a move on Monday after another slow start to the season and two embarrassing losses in the same week. It was certainly shocking when it was GM Ron Hextall on the way out. A move was necessary, but was this the right one for the Flyers?

Team president Paul Holmgren announced that GM Ron Hextall has been relieved of his duties effective immediately. 

In the midst of a stretch of five losses in six games, there are too many questions and flaws with this team. It’s not a question anymore. A change is needed.

The Flyers trailed 4-2 entering the third, but rallied back to force overtime, where Shayne Gostisbehere scored the game-winning goal to give the Flyers a 5-4 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night.

The first game of a five-game homestand comes against the same team the Flyers faced to close out the road trip on Monday. The Arizona Coyotes had their five-game winning streak snapped by the Flyers, and come to Philadelphia for the back end of a home-and-home.
