It wasn’t necessarily a bad game for the Flyers as a whole, but after getting superb goaltending and catching some breaks and bounces along the way to a six-game winning streak, they ran into a team that was better defensively and elite between the pipes.

One week after being named the NHL’s third star of the week, Brian Elliott was once again in the rankings, rising to the second star of the week for the week ending on Dec. 17.

This week, Kevin Durso and Rob Riches look at the Flyers current six-game win streak and the opposite effect of the 10-game losing streak, in addition to the performances of Sean Couturier, Claude Giroux, Nolan Patrick, Shayne Gostisbehere and Travis Sanheim.

It’s been quite the turnaround for the Flyers, who went from losing 10 straight games to now six straight wins, adding to their streak with a 2-1 overtime win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday. The win keeps the Flyers rolling and really took everything they had and a few opportunistic chances to get it done.

For the Flyers to claim their sixth straight win, it would take a little extra time. It may have been the Flyers holiday celebration, but the Flyers added a ghost story as well. Shayne Gostisbehere scored to tie the game in the second period and then added the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Flyers a 2-1 overtime win on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers had a 10-game winning streak ended at the hands of the Dallas Stars almost a year ago to the day. They carry a five-game winning streak into their meeting in Philadelphia on Saturday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Facing the lowly Buffalo Sabres was going to be a test to see if the Flyers would play down to the opponent and let it hurt the final result, but the Orange and Black secured a 2-1 win for their fifth straight, which certainly has the team’s 10-game losing streak slipping further into the past.

Playing on home ice hasn’t been the Flyers strong suit this season, but they opened a five-game homestand with a clutch 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs to extend their winning streak to four.

With wins in three straight games on the road, perhaps a little time away from home was exactly what the Flyers needed. But now, they must take the results of a successful road trip and bring it home to Wells Fargo Center, a place where they have struggled this season.

There is really nothing that could take the attention off of Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and the injury that officially ended his season on Sunday afternoon. In the Flyers locker room, defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has a personal connection with the injury, one he suffered three years ago.

Brian Elliott was named the NHL’s third star of the week for the week ending Dec. 10, posting a 3-0-0 record and a .954 save percentage in the Flyers three-game winning streak on the Western Canada road trip.

The Flyers goaltender of the future is currently playing putting up ridiculous numbers at juniors. It’s been an amazing season for Carter Hart already, as he just further separates himself as the Flyers future netminder.

There’s no doubt the Flyers hottest offensive player is Michael Raffl, who is suddenly up to seven points, including five goals, on the season, all in the last eight games after going the first 21 games of the season without a point.

For the second straight night, holding a two-goal lead during the final period wasn’t an issue, as the Flyers locked down their third straight win, sweeping the Western Canada trip with a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

The Western Canada trip concludes with one final game on the road against the Vancouver Canucks, with the Flyers looking for their first three-game win streak of the season.

Last week, this would probably have been another example of a game the Flyers found a way to lose. This time, the Flyers came out on the right end, claiming their second straight win, 4-2, over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.

Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere journeyed back to through his first two seasons in the NHL, his path to being drafted and his childhood in a Players Tribune piece posted on Wednesday simply titled, “You Might Know Me as Ghost.”

With the losing streak over, the Flyers look for a second straight win against the Oilers on Wednesday night in Edmonton. Game time is 9:30 p.m.

Defenseman Brandon Manning and goalie Michal Neuvirth were placed on injured reserve. Specifics of the injuries was not disclosed, but both will be out a minimum of seven days as a result. To fill out the roster, the Flyers have recalled defenseman T.J. Brennan and goalie Alex Lyon from the Phantoms.

Dave Hakstol’s future with the Flyers may be safe for now, and with many kids still so early in development, that may be understandable from Ron Hextall’s perspective. But Hakstol’s management of young players is concerning to his future.

At long last, it’s finally over. The Flyers put together a flurry of goals in the second period to open up a lead and held down the fort defensively in the third to finally finish off a game and snap their 10-game losing streak, beating the Flames, 5-2, on Monday night.

“Dave Hakstol is our coach and he will remain our coach. Period,” Flyers GM Ron Hextall said. “I’ve said it over and over, and I’m not going to say it again.”

The Flyers embark on a three-game Western Canada trip that starts against the Calgary Flames on Monday night. Game time is 9 p.m.

After a lifeless third period against the Sharks that capped off a ninth-straight loss and was followed with a closed-door meeting, you would think there would be some more inspired play by the Flyers. Not even close, as the Flyers displayed a similar lifeless and uninspired approach in a 3-0 loss to the Bruins for their 10th straight loss on Saturday.

The losing streak hit 10 games on Saturday with another lifeless and lacking performance in a 3-0 loss to the Boston Bruins, the Flyers sixth shutout loss of the season.

With three days off between games, the Flyers have had time to let a nine-game losing streak sit and stir up a fan base that can’t make much sense of the direction of this team. The Flyers will look to start to right the ship by hosting the Boston Bruins. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

What Flyers GM Ron Hextall said on Tuesday night was a combination of being completely delusional but also issuing a warning, or better yet, a challenge to the Flyers. The premise: I still believe in this team and think it can compete for a playoff spot, but I’m not afraid to take action if this continues.

In an interview on NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Philly Sports Talk on Wednesday, Flyers GM Ron Hextall made clear that Dave Hakstol’s job is not in jeopardy. “He’s the guy,” Hextall said. “Dave Hakstol is our coach and he’s going to remain our coach.”

The play on the ice showed a team that has essentially given up on everything and tuned out the coach, as fans chanted for the firing of the coach. But the Flyers players said otherwise following the game and a closed-door meeting called by captain Claude Giroux, backing and supporting Dave Hakstol.
