The Flyers only play eight preseason games before the regular season begins on Oct. 8 in Boston. By Thursday night, half of the preseason schedule will be complete.

The third game of the preseason for the Flyers was on Tuesday night in Toronto. Just like on Monday night, the Maple Leafs managed a victory, blanking the Flyers with a 4-0 win at Air Canada Centre.

It took until 13:33 for either team to find the net as James van Riemsdyk lifted a shot over the shoulder of Steve Mason to give the Leafs the lead. The Flyers had failed to clear the puck twice before the goal.

In the third, a Flyers power play took a wrong turn when they failed to enter the zone. A turnover led to a 2-on-1 where Brandon Kozen scored a short-handed goal on a pass from Trevor Smith at 4:54.

At 9:37, the lead was extended to three as a shot from the point by Cody Franson found its way past Mason.

Another Maple Leafs goal was waved off on the ice late in the third. A shot by van Riemsdyk hit off the post and in but the call on the ice was no goal. Because there is no video review during the preseason, the call stood even though video showed a good goal.

Eventually, it would be a 4-0 nothing game as William Nylander scored in the final minute of regulation.

Mason was solid in goal to follow up a strong night for Anthony Stolarz on Monday. Mason stopped 28 of 32 shots.

Jonathan Bernier played the first 30 minutes of the game, stopping all 12 shots he faced. Antoine Bibeau stopped 13 shots in the final 30 minutes to seal the shutout.

The Flyers return to the ice at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday as they host the New Jersey Devils.
