Between the Lines: Bradford ‘all for’ Pope blessing his knees; Eagles look to replace Shepherd; Cowboys rivalry grows

"Between the Lines" is a weekly aggregation series, sharing links and highlights of other pieces around the web regarding the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sam Bradford, QB

Sam Bradford on push to get the Pope to bless his knees: ‘I’m all for it’

(Sportress of Blogitude/Jason Rowan)

After an online, Change.org petition was started by an Eagles fan to get the Pope to bless Sam Bradford's knees, the 27-year-old quarterback out of Oklahoma responded.

“I haven’t seen that,” Bradford said after practice on Tuesday, via CSN Philly. “I was told about it before I talked to you guys. If I got to meet the Pope, I think that would be pretty cool. If he wanted to bless my knee, then I’m all for it.” …

The Pope of course is scheduled to visit Philadelphia on Sept. 26 and 27, something that prompts the Eagles to face a pretty daunting road schedule to start the regular season.

As of Wednesday morning, the petition currently has 5,014 supporters.

Brandon Boykin, CB; JaCorey Shepherd CB

Eagles look for options after CB JaCorey Shepherd tears ACL

(CSN Philly/Geoff Mosher)

Just eight days after trading corner Brandon Boykin to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Eagles suffered a devastating blow when JaCorey Shepherd tore his right ACL at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

The injury occurred when Shepherd collided with running back Darren Sproles along the left sideline during drills. Shepherd is the second player lost prematurely because of a knee ligament injury. Outside linebacker Travis Long, who was coming back from an ACL tear suffered in last year’s preseason finale, re-tore the same ligament last week.

Lane Johnson, OT; Greg Hardy, DE

(CBS Sports/Will Brinson)

The historic Eagles-Cowboys rivalry has found itself to already involve players of the respective teams, even before preseason football gets underway.

He won't be eligible to play when the Cowboys and Eagles meet the first time in Week 2, but Greg Hardy's doing whatever he can to stoke the rivalry. Hardy found out about a Go Fund Me campaign to fly a banner over Eagles practice and donated $300 to it.

The campaign was successful and the result was a plane flying over Eagles practice carrying a banner that read "WE STILL DEM BOYZ!!!! #SACKSCOMIN." …

"A waste of money," Eagles tackle Lane Johnson said. "I think he's a hothead and gets carried away with himself. He's going to have his hands full with [Jason Peters], I promise you that."
