Welcome in to another edition of Between the Pipes, a look at Flyers hockey through linkage. This week was a successful week for the Flyers, and with such a long layoff, it gives us a chance to look at other stories around the team.

Kimmo Timonen's retirement ceremony was a highlight of the week and provided another chance to celebrate a memorable career. On and off the ice, Timonen was a leader and inspiration to many teammates on all three teams he played for in his career. It was a fitting tribute to one of the Flyers best defenseman in franchise history.
Trevor van Riesmdyk's journey to the NHL – [Courier-Post – Dave Isaac]
The brother of former Flyers No. 2 overall pick James van Riemsdyk, Trevor van Riemsdyk took a long path to get to the NHL, but saw the reward when he was part of the Blackhawks run to the Stanley Cup in 2015. The younger van Riemsdyk has dealt with two serious injuries – a broken kneecap in October 2014 and a wrist injury in April 2015 – that threatened his season. He returned for the final four games of the Stanley Cup Final. He cited his brother's support as a big reason he was able to make it through that trying time.
Flyers enjoying Blue Jays run through MLB Playoffs – [Philadelphia Daily News – Jeff Neiburg]
With the Toronto Blue Jays winning their first playoff series since 1993, Canada is enjoying a baseball playoff run. That includes several Flyers players. There are 14 Canadian players on the Flyers roster, and even into the final hours of preparation for Wednesday's game against Chicago, the Flyers were trying to keep up with Toronto's Game 5 win over the Texas Rangers. The Blue Jays lost Game 1 of the ALCS to the Kansas City Royals on Friday, but for another week at least, the Flyers will certainly have a vested interest in the MLB Postseason.
