DUNEDIN, Fla. —The Toronto Blue Jays have signed former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca.
Brown, 28, elected free agency on Oct. 26 after spending six seasons with the Phillies, where he batted .246/.305/.405 with 54 home runs and 229 runs-batted-in over 493 games and 1,748 plate appearances. In 63 games last season, Brown hit .228/.284/.349 with six doubles, one triple, five home runs and 25 runs-batted-in.
The 2013 National League All-Star was sidelined for a significant portion at the start and end of the 2015 season due to suffering tendinitis of the left Achillies and "post-concussion symptoms," respectively.
In signing with Toronto, Brown heads to a team that he was linked to in the past via trade rumors centered around eventual Phillies' Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay, and even six-time All-Star outfielder Jose Bautista.
Other Blue Jays' non-roster outfield invitees to spring training include: Anthony Alford, Roemon Fields and Dwight Smith Jr.
