Sergei Bobrovsky continued his outstanding play against his former team. Bobrovsky made 25 saves on 26 shots. David Savard and Nick Foligno had a goal each and the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in overtime on Sunday night.
The Flyers got what they thought was an early 1-0 lead. Andrew MacDonald fired a shot from the point that hit the post and went in. The play was reviewed and the goal waved off.
The refs determined Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was interfered with on the play as he was bumped by his own man after the Columbus defenseman collided with Micheal Raffl.
The Flyers got the game's first power play just a few minutes later whe former Flyer Sam Gagner was called for hooking at the 3:00 mark. Despite good puck control, the Flyers were unable to get one past Bobrovsky and game remained scoreless.
The league's best power play got their chance with the man advantage at 11:59 of the first when Radko Gudas was called for delay of game. The Flyers penalty killers did an outstanding job holding Columbus to zero shots on the power play.
Columbus outshot Philadelphia 7-5 in the period but both goalies stopped everything and the game was tied 0-0 after twenty minutes.
Columbus would get the lead at 7:08 of the second period. David Savard potted his second goal of the season to put the Blue Jackets up 1-0. The Flyers challenged the call as Josh Anderson's skate hit Steve Mason's skate just as the shot was taken. The call on the ice was upheld however and the goal stood.
The Flyers had a chance to tie it up just a few minutes later but Brayden Schenn was unable bury the puck into a wide open net. The play started along the boards and as the puck made its way to the front Schenn was unable to finish it.
The Flyers did outshoot Columbus 10-9 in the period but Bobrovsky had all the answers and the Blue Jackets held a 1-0 lead after two periods.
Columbus would get their second man advantage at 7:51 of the third period when the Flyers were called for too many men on the ice. The Blue Jackets had a number of decent chances but a series of blocked shots and an outstanding save by Mason kept them off the board.
The Flyers would get the game tied late in the third. With Steve Mason pulled for the extra attacker, Brayden Schenn made up for his earlier miss potting his 12th of the season with just 16 seconds left. The late goal would send the game to overtime.
In the overtime Columbus would take advantage of turnover at their own Blue Jackets and Nick Foligno was the recipient of a drop pass from Seth Jones. Foligno beat Mason to give Columbus the 2-1 victory.
